František Rosa

[Rosa, Roža; František]

* 7.12.1738, Sabinov
† February 1782, Košice

He was born into the family of the Sabinov organ builder Vavrinec Rosa. František trained as an organ builder with his father. He worked in Košice, where in December 1762 he became a burgher and in 1755 a member of the town council. He had a good knowledge of Latin, which he used to write letters and proposals.

Organ builder’s workshop

Rosa was an important organ builder. He built two-manual organs also, e.g. for St. Elizabeth's Cathedral (1769 – 1770) and for the Cathedral in Rožňava (1776). The Košice organ with thirty registers is one of the largest bartoque organs in Slovakia.
